Question 1

How much subsidy is available under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in Gujarat?

Accepted Answer

Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, residential consumers receive fixed central government subsidies via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and up to ₹78,000 for 3 kW and higher rooftop solar systems.

Question 2

How does net-metering work with Gujarat DISCOMs like MGVCL and UGVCL?

Accepted Answer

A bi-directional net meter records solar energy exported to the grid and electricity imported from the grid. Electricity bills are calculated on Net Units = (Import Units - Export Units), reducing power bills by up to 90%.

Question 3

What is the ROI and payback period for a rooftop solar system in Gujarat?

Accepted Answer

With government subsidies up to ₹78,000, the typical payback period is 2.5 to 3.5 years. For the remaining 22+ years of the plant's 25-year lifespan, all solar electricity generated is free.
